The local context
The incidence of type 2 diabetes is rising among children and adolescents across Türkiye. This is in part attributable to a sharp increase in obesity rates. Obesity in young people is associated with physical inactivity and poor dietary habits.
Our objectives
Provide 11,000 freshmen students in 55 schools across nine cities with healthy living information so they can make choices that will help them become ‘healthy adults’.

Healthy diet and physical activity.
Our programme
Workshops and seminars conducted across participating schools to raise awareness on the importance of a healthy diet and physical activity. Students from each school were encouraged to form groups and make videos under the supervision of their physical education (PE) teachers and school counsellors. The videos were reviewed by a ‘project jury’ and prizes awarded for the best entries. Pre- and post-tests monitored the change in students’ level of awareness.
Our achievements
Launched with a press conference on 23 February 2018, the programme's total reach was 112 schools across 17 cities, engaging 12,225 students with sessions on healthy nutrition and physical activity.
