AstraZeneca's global disease prevention initiative

The Young Health Programme (YHP) is AstraZeneca’s global disease prevention programme, focused on preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by educating and activating young people aged 10-24 to make informed choices about their health, and catalysing a worldwide, youth-led advocacy movement.

The Programme aims to prevent the most common NCDs - including cancer, diabetes, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, lung diseases and other respiratory conditions, and address climate-related health challenges, by tackling key risk factors such as tobacco use, physical inactivity, harmful alcohol consumption, unhealthy diets and air pollution.

It does this by activating young people to make more informed choices about their health and supporting the development of healthier, more protective environments.

Over 23 million young people directly reached with information about NCD risk behaviours.

Launched in 2010, the YHP is operating in 40+ countries around the world and has directly reached over 23 million young people from underserved communities with information about NCD risk behaviours.

It is delivered in partnership with over 60 not-for-profit organisations worldwide, including UNICEF and Plan International, and has been built on a foundation of research from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

A holistic and integrated initiative

The YHP initiative combines community programmes, research, advocacy, and the development of young leaders.
It is a movement giving young people the tools, platforms and confidence to act on the health issues that matter to them.
