Enhancing data

The YHP has supported the Population Reference Bureau to help to fill many of the gaps in data relating to adolescent health, especially in low- and middle-income countries.

These provide a firm base on which we, and other groups interested in these issues, can develop policy and interventions.

Research reports

Non-communicable diseases risk factors among young people in Africa

This study identifies all of the available data, for each African country, for NCD risk factors: tobacco use, alcohol use, overweight/obesity and physical inactivity. The report provides links to the data sources and descriptions of the data available.

Non-communicable diseases risk factors among young people in Asia

This report brought together comparable data across Asian countries for tobacco use, alcohol use, physical inactivity, and overweight status using the Global Youth Tobacco Survey and Global School-based Student Health Survey (and other sources where these data were not available) to create a traffic-light chart of the NCD risk factors for young people by country. Regional examples of interventions by the public and private sectors are also highlighted.

Curbing the non-communicable disease epidemic in the Middle East and North Africa

The Middle East and North Africa report uses the same approach as the Asia study (above) to examine the health risks to young people in the Middle East and North Africa region using the same the ‘traffic light system’ to highlight areas of particular concern by country and examples of actions being taken to curb the threats.
