The local context
In Russia, over 350,000 children are raised in foster families.
Children with disabilities, adolescents, siblings, and children in temporary care are difficult to place in foster care and risk experiencing a placement breakdown.
This can be extremely traumatic for the children's mental health, decreasing their chances of successful, future integration into society.
To prevent this, foster families require professional support in order to support the children in their care1.
Our objectives
To achieve a successful fostering outcomes through the provision of essential professional support to families and children.
Our focus
Free consultancy services to foster families and children to help both cope with the impact of negative experiences from orphanage life; improving children's mental health and increasing their chances of success in the future.
Our programme
To assist foster families, our NGO partner 'Volunteers for Orphans' Charity Fund established the 'Children at Home' Information Centre, which offers free consultations with psychologists, lawyers, speech therapists, speech pathologists, and neuropsychologists.
With the help of the YHP, the 'Children at Home' Information Centre aims to provide 3,000 professional consultations to 220 foster families who are raising at least 240 children over the course of two years.
Employees at AstraZeneca also take part in a variety of charitable activities to support the Programme.
Our achievements
Results from a survey conducted by the Charity Fund, showed:
- 93% of surveyed foster families noted an improvement in their circumstances, thanks to the services of the Information Centre.
- 83% of respondents observed improvements in a child's psychological condition.
- 88% of parents noticed an improvement in their own emotional state.
- 82% reported improvements in their intra-family relationships.
- 77% also noted improvements in their child's social integration.
