The local context
The leading 20 causes of age-standardised disability-adjusted life years in Taiwan are mostly non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and of the total burden, 44% are attributable to modifiable risk behaviours.1
Our objectives
To build knowledge and awareness of NCD risk factors among young people aged 10–14 in urban and rural areas, reducing behaviours that increase the likelihood of disease later in life.
Our focus
School children aged between 10-14 across urban and rural regions in Taiwan.
Our programme
1. Educated students on the importance of health care, healthy diets, and healthy behaviours from an early age, through various school activities.
2. Created an ongoing dialogue between children and parents about kidney health, as a key focus.
Our achievements
The programme directly reached over 215,000 school children via an interactive school curriculum including online knowledge competitons, drawing competitions and summer camps.
Our partners
Taiwan Kidney Foundation aims to raise awareness and health literacy relating to non-communicable diseases.
They aim to improve the overall health of the people of Taiwan by fostering knowledge exchange between medical institutions and academic units.
