We follow the science to develop medicines that are informed by human genetic evidence and designed to tackle the root causes of disease.
Human genomics research is transforming our understanding of the genetic blueprint behind health and disease in populations around the globe. By combining genomic data with matched clinical insights and advanced technologies, we’re uncovering breakthroughs that could lead to innovative, potentially life-changing therapies for patients.
Centre for Genomics Research
The Centre for Genomics Research (CGR) is AstraZeneca’s dedicated genomics research team specializing in discovering how genes influence health and disease. Learn how our research team is using genomics research to unlock new possibilities in drug discovery.

Scaling impact through global collaborations
Through strategic partnerships with over 60 academic, government, non‑profit, and industry organisations in 19 countries, we build genomic datasets that mirror the diversity of the people our medicines serve. Today, our dataset spans more than 1.7 million genomes and matched clinical insights, with nearly 40% from individuals of non‑European genetic ancestries—about four times the global average across other biobanks.
Advancing genomics research for people and the planet
In the era of big data, how we advance science matters just as much as what we discover. With a database of 1.7 million genomes and growing, it not enough to just scale our genomics research, it must be made accessible. To support global research progress, we have made large components of our population-scale AI tools and insights available through our open access platforms below to over 20,000 scientists in 100 countries in 2025 alone.
