AstraZeneca US is driven by our purpose to deliver life-changing medicines to all patients, yet systemic barriers prevent millions of Americans from achieving their best possible health outcomes.
As part of our global sustainability efforts, in 2021 we created Accelerate Change Together (ACT) on Health Equity, a US-wide initiative to continually transform the way we do business to improve access, affordability, and outcomes for patients in the disease areas and communities we serve. We established a first-of-its-kind Health Equity Advisory Council (HEAC) comprised of diverse, cross-sector leaders who serve as independent experts to guide our strategy and investments. In partnership with the HEAC, we defined our health equity Ambition and created a long-term strategic roadmap.
Our Ambition is to achieve health equity for patients and employees with emphasis on those from historically excluded and disenfranchised populations.
A Roadmap to Achieve Our Health Equity Ambition
By applying an equity lens to our business, taking a science-based, data-driven approach and committing to accessible and transparent communications, we aim to transform the way that we operate and show up for people and communities across four key areas.
With a focus on Science, we are building health equity into the development of our life saving medicines from discovery to delivery, ensuring the drug design process better reflects the diversity of our patient population.
We are evolving our Delivery practices to ensure our medicines reach all patients that could benefit from them. This includes improving equity in healthcare screenings, diagnosis and treatment. It also involves increasing the diversity of US suppliers.
We are serving as a Community partner to transform patient outcomes by aligning all strategic non-profit collaborations and commitments to prioritize equitable access, affordability and outcomes.
